President Nikolas Kanellopoulos reflected on ZAON’s 64-year history and the rebuilding process that began in 2024: “We are passionate about leaving a legacy of sportsmanship. A legacy that goes beyond competitive success. Competing at the highest level is the pinnacle, but reaching that point requires strong foundations and continuity.”
He also acknowledged the significant support enabling the Club to invest in its facilities and people this season, as well as Giannis Kalmazidis’ role in establishing a shared philosophy across all teams. He emphasised: “We want to win, but we want to do it the right way, rather than at any cost.”
He placed particular emphasis on teaching sporting values: “Our success is measured from the moment a child first puts on the ZAON jersey. That is where they will learn to lose with dignity and win with respect.” He concluded: “We have enjoyed days of glory, and we are once again creating the conditions for those days to return.”
Head coach Giannis Kalmazidis highlighted the Club’s vision: “What made me choose to come here came down to one thing: the ambition, the vision and the opportunity to build.”
He stressed the importance of connecting the younger age groups with the first team, helping young players develop both as athletes and as people who show respect and humility.
Speaking about the team’s competitive philosophy, he added: “Of course, we compete at the highest level and we all strive to win, but always with respect and through proper work. If the process is right, the results will follow in time.”
Nontas Baimbos, representing the youth development teams, outlined the academies’ growth: “From around 100 children last year, that number has doubled this season. We now have ten training groups led by four coaches, while specialised setter training sessions are delivered by Biljana Gligorović.” He emphasised that the quality of coaching and every child’s participation remain key priorities.
Team captain Katerina Giota said: “I am very happy to be here for a second year and to represent all the girls as captain. I believe we will have a good season.” Commenting on the atmosphere at the Club, she added: “You look forward to coming to the court, and the people here stand by you through both wins and losses.”
